2012 - the new year and some baby news from us

It is another new year, we are still trying to understand on how the year 2011 went so fast. And before you know it, it is 15 days into the first month and I am still trying to put the first news for the year. Usually we try to do a recap of the year, analyze how the year went and where we want to be the same time next year. This year we are still planning on doing it, but more towards in March/April. There is a specific reason for that, which we will get into in another couple of months. Here at the aviary the things have been quiet - The second clutch of Military Macaw babies went home - All three where DNA tested to be males and they were named Mo, Emmitt and Morgan by their new families. Morgan left yesterday. The third clutch babies are growing up and more alert every day and their pin feathers are coming out pretty nice. Other than that the Macaws have been really hunkering down for the winter which finally arrived with today's wake up temperature of negative 14!
The Congo Grey baby has been off the formula for the last week and should be ready to go home next week. His parents (Jake and Molly are sitting on some eggs, we are not sure if any are fertile - so crossing our fingers for that. Josephine and Jeremiah, hatched their first egg for us last week and they have been taking good care of the baby till now. We are hoping to pulling him for hand-feeding sometime next week depending on how Jodie's schedule is looking. The cameroons are working the box and almost chewed the side of the box big enough for them to come out - not sure if they are brave enough for that adventure, let's see what happens.
On a personal level, 2012 began with not the greatest of news with Jodie grandma in hospital from a fall/hip surgery - we are hoping that things will improve soon and we do appreciate a lot of yours prayers and thoughts on this. A personal Thank You to one and all from all of us.
